E27. If Not Now, When – A Conversation with Fiona Doubleday

On seasons, simplicity and stepping away from the noise.

I’ve been truly touched by the response to Your Woven Year. Each message, photo and reflection has felt like a little gift and I’m so grateful it’s finding its way into your days. The first print run sold out far quicker than I imagined and new copies are being printed as I type, ready for mid-September.

Your Woven Year

This week’s podcast feels like it sits in that same spirit: an invitation to notice, to slow down and to reweave our lives with the seasons.

Back in May, I had the joy of speaking with

- artist, teacher and all-round seasonal soul. I’ve been eagerly awaiting the right moment to share it with you.

Fiona lives and works on the Isle of Arran, where her creativity is shaped by deep-rooted rhythms of the land, the seasons and her own inner knowing.

In our conversation, she shares her journey from university lecturing to life as a teaching artist; the moment she said “no” to a promotion and “yes” to something much truer. We talk about time, nettles, noticing, decay, creative flow and why rest doesn’t just live in winter.

You may well come away from this one thinking differently about time, about walking slowly, and what you really need.

A few of my favourite moments:

  • Her mantra: “If not now, when?”

  • Her reflections on micro-seasonal noticing (and tiny sketchbooks)

  • Her belief that everyone is creative — we just need to find the right outlet

  • Her story of the snail shell that became a nature table treasure

Whether you have five minutes or fifty, this conversation invites you to step outside, notice something new and perhaps ask yourself a question: what do I want? Or, as Fiona might say: what do I need?

Fiona’s gentle wisdom is a balm for our fast-paced world. Be ready to fall back in love with your own patch of earth.

Join Fiona’s seasonal creativity community to meander away from the complexity of the modern world.

This episode and Your Woven Year both carry the same invitation: to notice, to move gently with the seasons and to find a rhythm that feels like your own.
