Field Notes No. 02 ~ Follow The Thread
On the quiet power of being in good company.
Welcome to Field Notes, a space to share more of the process in my work - the part that’s often not seen, nuanced and sometimes still unfolding. This is about noticing what’s in motion. The messiness. The quiet insights. The moments that shift everything, even if just slightly.
Last time I shared a glimpse into the making of Your Woven Year. What I didn’t mention is that it was inspired by The Thread and the community that has gathered quietly around it over the past year. Here’s a look inside.
We begin again on Wednesday, 3rd September and there’s still space for you to join.
A whisper among the noise
It started, as many things do, with a sense of something missing.
A recurring conversation in my work, especially with educators and leaders, about the need for a different kind of space. One that isn’t full of noise or urgency. One where the whole of you is welcome. Where you can slow down enough to hear your own thinking and be gently stretched by the insights of others.
So I created The Thread, not as a programme, not as a training, not even as a group, but as a kind of gathering place. A softly held structure. A space to come back to, stay connected to what matters most and keep hold of a thread that often feels like it might slip through our fingers.
A space that grew quietly
Over the past year, something quite special has been happening inside The Thread. What began as a regular and seasonal reflective space has evolved into something deeper, as I hoped it would. But it’s also been described recently by a few members as having become a space that offers a version of “supervision”.
“The Thread provides a safe place to connect, share, reflect and actively listen. I feel I have taken control and ownership of looking after myself.”
That word - supervision - can carry baggage. It’s often misunderstood. But here, it’s grown into something gentle and sustaining. Something only possible because of the psychological safety created and nurtured by the group.
“It is like a balm attending a session.”
It’s become a place of curiosity, connection and care. A space to hold the hard stuff, laugh at the absurdity, celebrate the joy and gather the strength to go again.
What you can expect inside The Thread
When you join, you’ll have:
Monthly online gatherings on the first Wednesday of each month (7.05 - 7.55pm)
Four seasonal workshops woven through the year
Reflective prompts that deepen your thinking and bring clarity
Resources and ideas you can continue exploring through the weeks and months
A psychologically safe space to share what’s real and important
A community of peers who understand the pressures and joys of your work
You don’t need to know exactly what you want from it. You just need to know that a space like this might be useful to you.
Why now
We begin again on Wednesday, 3rd September. Joining now means:
You begin the academic year with clarity and connection
You’ll be part of the full seasonal cycle from the beginning
You create an intentional cycle of renewal for yourself by stepping out of the cycle of self-sacrifice
“I’ve really benefited from resources shared, along with new ideas and pathways introduced which all resonate with me and I’ve continued to explore them. It’s been fantastic CPD - because looking after myself is enabling me to better support everyone I work with.”
Together, we deepen resilience, sharpen awareness, embolden creativity and strengthen practice from the inside out. And we do it in community, with one another.
An act of quiet resistance
Over time, I’ve come to see The Thread as more than just a monthly gathering, I like to think of it as an act of quiet resistance.
It’s an alternative to urgency.
A pause button.
A reminder that we can create the conditions we need, even within systems that feel relentless.
It has reminded me, again and again, that transformation can begin with attention. By choosing to notice. By creating space for what we don't yet know.
And in that noticing, a thread begins to appear - connecting seemingly disparate moments: a conversation with a colleague, a shift in energy, a walk taken instead of a working lunch, a thought returned to later that reveals more than it did the first time, a joining of dots.
An invitation to join us
If you’re seeking a space that honours both your inner and professional worlds, The Thread might just be what you didn’t realise you needed.
We gather monthly and seasonally - engaging with the rhythm of the academic year and the energy of the moment as the seasons unfold. This is less about having answers and more about making space for the questions that matter.
We begin again on Wednesday, 3rd September, and you can join us.
From my notes to yours
This is intentional work. Often subtle, rarely linear, and not easily measured. But its impact runs deep.
If you’re holding space for others, who’s holding it for you?
Where are you allowed to soften and be held?
And what might become possible if we give ourselves permission to pause together?
We begin again on Wednesday, 3rd September and there’s still space for you to join us. You can save your spot now and begin this next academic session connected, supported and ready.
Guiding you through the wood, the trees and the spaces in between. Join me each month as I dive into a theme inspired by my work and the conversations I have.
I know this is going to be a beautiful experience because it inspired such a gorgeous project 💫
